Re: IRC Delhi University

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) was setup in 1988 in Pune, India. It helps the Universities to develop teaching and Research in various areas of Astronomy and Astrophysics.

There are 4 IUCAA Reference Centres (IRC) which are set up at different places in the country. It was set up at the University of Delhi in a hall located in the Department of Physics and Astrophysics. The space and the infrastructure were provided by the University while the grant for the regular functioning and for holding academic programs is given by IUCAA.

The Centre has a small library of some of the basic books which IUCAA has loaned. It has several other books which many people have generously donated. Regular seminars are held both by the academic members of the University as well as by visitors to the centre.

Several people engaged in Research and teaching of Astronomy & Astrophysics visit the centre for consulting the library, academic discussions, research Collaborations as well as to deliver seminars and colloquia. Its day-to-day functioning is taken care by research students.

Facilities

There is a small library consisting primarily of books in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Field Theory.

There are also several books on other areas of Physics.

Some of them are on long term loan form IUCAA and some are donated by generous individuals.

It has a data center consisting of 8 machines. This data center is intended to train the B.Sc and M.Sc students for the data analysis. All the machines are connected to the internet provided by the university. There are total of 6 to 8 internet points are there at IRC to connect laptops.

The Central Science Library (CSL) of the University subscribes to a number of e-journals. These can be accessed from these internet points.
