In the teaching programme, the institute at present offers M.A./M.Sc. in Population Studies, M.Sc. in Biostatistics & Demography, Master of Population Studies (MPS), M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Population Studies. The MPS education is conducted both as regular, classroom course and through distance learning.

Eligibility Criteria for the courses is as follows:

Master of Arts/Science in Population Studies (M.A./M.Sc.)
(fifty Seats with Govt. of India Fellowship)
Bachelor’s degree from a acknowledged university with at least 55% of marks or equivalent grade. First choice shall be given to candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in Math/Stat/Eco or any social science subject.

The higher age limit is 25 years as on 30.6.2015.

Master of Science in Bio-Statistics and Epidemiology
(Fifty Seats with Govt. of India Fellowship)
Bachelor’s degree from a acknowledged university with at least 55% of marks or equivalent grade with Mathematics or Statistics as mainstay subject or other subject with atleast two full papers on Mathematics or Statistics.

Master of Population Studies
(Fifty Seats with Govt. of India Fellowship)

Master of Philosophy in Population Studies
(Fifty Seats with Govt. of India fellowship. Five seats will be retained for candidates with M.Sc. in Bio-Statistics and Epidemiology.)
Master in Population Studies/ M.A/M.Sc. in Demography from a acknowledged university with at least 55 per cent of marks or equivalent.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Population Studies
Five Seats (Five = 1 Gen, 2 SC & 2 ST) with Govt. of India Fellowship.

M.Phil or Master's degree in Population Studies of a acknowledged university with atleast 55% of marks.
