St. Mary’s University (SMU) was established in the year 1998. It is located at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia .

India's initiative to promote higher education in African countries with the Indira Gandhi National Open University launching its MBA course in Ethiopia.

IGNOU has launched Pan-African E-network project announced by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam during his visit to Johannesburg in the year 2005.

The programme is being offered through the tele-communication mode via an under-sea cable,"

The course is being offered free of cost to 40 students.

Five other institutes, including IISC Bangalore , Delhi University and University of Madras, are partners in this project.

Currently eight graduate programs are run in partnership with IGNOU.

These courses include Public Administration, Library and Information Science, Business Administration, Sociology, Economics, Commerce, Rural Development and Political Science in the distance mode of learning

The university offers excellent services in the preparation of job placement tests, standardized tests, and international tests such as the IBT- TOEFL and GRE.
