The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), is a government-funded firm, which is also a deemed University. It was founded in 2007 and is located in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala).

The institute never conducts its own entrance examination. Earlier the admission in IIST was granted on the basis of JEE Advanced rank. However, last year, the All India Rank of JEE Main was used to prepare IIST rank list. However, the JEE Advanced scores were used to establish the eligibility criteria.

IIST Eligibility Criteria 2016
Nationality: Only Indian citizens will be granted admission in UG Degree courses, in IIST.

Age: General and OBC category aspirants, seeking admission, must be born on or after 1 October 1991. However, aspirants belonging to SC, ST and PwD category are entitled to the relaxation of 5 years, i.e. must be born on or after 1 October 1986.

Education Qualification: Qualifying exam must have been passed with an aggregate of, at least, 70% marks (60% for SC, ST, PwD) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
