The UPSC IFS (Union Public Service Commission Indian Forest Service) exam consists of two stages. The first one is the Civil Services Preliminary Exam which is an objective type test. The second one is the Indian Forest Service Main Examination which consists of Written and an Interview test. The Preliminary exam is conducted for a total of 400 marks, while the Main written exam for 1400 marks and the Interview for 300 marks. There will be negative marking only in the preliminary exam. UPSC IFS Exam Pattern for Prelims Preliminary exam consists of two papers: Paper- 1 based on General Studies (GS) and Paper 2 is General Studies based on the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). Type of questions Objective type Mode of Examination Offline Duration of exam 2 hours for each paper Total Marks 400 Marks Per Question 200 Language English and Hindi Number of papers Two Negative marking – 1/3 marks for each incorrect response UPSC IFS Exam Pattern for Mains Mains exam consists of two parts i.e. Written Exam and Personality Test. The Written exam for IFS Mains consists of six papers and all Papers are required to be answered in English only. Number of Papers Six Mode of Examination Offline Total Marks 1400 Language English only Paper I General English (300 marks) Paper II General Knowledge (300 marks) Papers III, IV, V and VI One is required to select two optional subjects (200 marks each) Optional subjects are: Statistics, Zoology, Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Mechanical Engineering, Forestry, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Botany, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science |
