The Heartland Institute is a national nonprofits public policy research and educational organization based in Chicago, Illinois. Approximately 1,800 supporters support an annual budget of $6 million. Heartland does not accept government funding. Contributions are tax-deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code As per the Heartland 2011 detail. As of June 2015, that number has increased to 8,300 supporters, (budget remains listed at $6 million). During 2014, The Heartland Institute received support from approximately 6,000 individual, foundation, and corporate supporters.
