Gazetted Officer is a higher level ranked government servant. Duty or a gazetted officer to issue an official stamp which comes from President of India or the Governors of States.

Class I or Group A (Gazetted) Service Categories
These officials belong to the managerial or highly educated class of government servants.
Examples - Officers of the Indian Armed Forces
Bureaucrats from the Civil Services (IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.)
(ISRO, DRDO, BARC, CSIR)Scientists in the Union Government funded research organisations
(IITs, IIMs, IISc, AIIMS, NITs, Delhi University, etc.) Vice-Chancellors, Directors and Faculty members of the Central Universities/institutions
Doctors
Engineers
Magistrates
Judicial services

Class 1 Includes Employees Like:
Police officers of Circle Inspector and higher ranked,
All India services, though posted to states,
Additional District Civil surgeons,
District Medical Officer and higher ranked,
Principals of Government colleges and higher ranked,
Executive Engineers and higher ranked,

Gazetted Officers are executive/managerial/supervisorial level ranked public employees in India.
Power for a gazetted officer to issue an official stamp comes from the President of India or the Governors of States.
To that effect, they are de jure agents and delegates of the Indian State and the President.

The Government of India or the Government of States in India classifies public employees into Group A (Gazetted/Executive), B (Gazetted), B (Non-Gazetted), C and D


Class I or Group A (Gazetted)

These officials belong to the managerial or highest class of government
servants.

They are Commissioned officers of the Indian Armed Forces, Secretaries,
Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, Directors, Dy. Secretaries, Under
Secretaries in Central Secretariat,

Executive Directors, Directors, Joint Directors, Dy. Directors in Railway
Board, Officers from GREF, MES, Officers from the All India Services and
Central Civil Services, State Civil Service Group- A officers (executive) in the State Governments (Provincial Civil Services/State Civil Services).

These are also included in GROUP A

Patent Examiner in DIPP under Ministry of Commerce and Industry,

CSIR, Directors, Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice Chancellors, Registrars,

Dean of Student Welfare, Faculty Deans, Assistant Professors, Associate
Professors, and Professors of State/Central Universities,

Research Centres and Government colleges,

(Chief Medical Officers) in State/Central Govt. Hospitals ,

Engineers of the rank of Executive Engineers and above in various Central
and State Govt. Departments,

Chief Judicial Magistrates and above in the judicial services, Police officers of the rank of Additional SP and above in State Police Service and Central
Police Organizations,


Senior Geologists & Geologists of Geological Survey of India .



Class II or Group B (Gazetted)



They are JCOs in Defence, Group B officers in State Civil Service, Doctors in
State/Central Hospital, Lecterur and Demonstrator in Physiotherapy, Junior
Physiotherapist, Secretary of Gram Panchayat, Assistant Engineers in both
State govt. departments and Organizations etc., Assistant Geologist in State government, Sainik Schools),Section Officers in Central Secretariat.
