Goa University was established in 1985 by an Act of Goa Government. In 2014 the university is accredited by NAAC with A Grade, it is recognized by UGC

Yes Goa University has signed memorandum of understanding with a number of institutions, including the National Institute of Oceanography, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, Universidade Moderna and University of Aveiro in Portugal, National Centre for Software Technology, Mumbai, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines, Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, among others.
