Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council accredited it at the five-star level. Later, it was accredited at NAAC Grade "A" with a CGPA of 3.5. Most recently, it has been accredited with NAAC CGPA 3.51, enshrined with the esteemed "University with Potential for Excellence" and "Category - 1Autonomy" Status by UGC and MHRD respectively.


Ranking

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Guru Nanak Dev University 86 overall in India and 59 among universities in 2018. More recently, CWUR, a global ranking based in UAE, has rated it among top 8.7% Institutions across world.
