Yes, they check eyesight when they check your Medical Fitness before your joining.


Physical Requirements:

Candidates must have good physical and mental health and free from any disease/disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.

There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight.

The minimum acceptable height is 157.5 cms (162.5 cms for Air Force). For Gurkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North Eastern regions of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum acceptable heights will be 5 cms less. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms.


Height Standards for Air Force:
Leg Length
Minimum: 99.00
Maximum: 120.00 cms

Thigh Length
Maximum: 64.00 cms

Sitting Height
Minimum: 81.50
Maximum: 96.00 cms

Chest should be well developed. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms. X-Ray of the chest is compulsory.

There should be no disease of bones and joints of the body.

Required Vision:
Candidate should be able to read 6/6 in a distant vision chart with each eye, with or without glasses (For Navy 6/6, 6/9 without glasses and Air force without glasses only).

Myopia should not be more than 2.5D and hypermetropia not more than 3.5D including Astigmatism.

Vision standard for Naval Candidates:
Distant vision: 6/6,6/9 correctable to 6/6
Near vision: N-5 each eye
Color vision: CPI (MLT)
Manifest: Must not exceed
Hypermetropia: +2.00 DSph


(6/24, 6/36 correctable to 6/6 in each eye with glasses for technical branch/group duty branches)

Myopia is not to exceed 0.75 dioptres in either eye or hypermetropia not more than +1.5 dioptres in the better eye and 2.5 dioptres in the worse eye.

Vision standard for Air force:
Distant vision: 6/6,6/9 correctable to 6/6
Near vision Colour vision: N-5 each eye
Manifest: CPI (MLT)
Hypermetropia: Must not exceed Myopia +2.00 S Sph
Myopia: Nil
Astigmatism: +0.75 D cyl
