To become an IPS or Indian Police Service officer one need to appear for Civil Service Exam which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) every year to take qualified students into different service post in government sector. Eligibility to be an IPS Officer 1. Educational Qualification A candidate needs to have a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. Candidates in the final year of a degree course can also appear in the Preliminary Examination taken every year by UPSC. 2. Age Minimum age of 21 years and maximum 30 years of age on 1st August of the year of examination The upper age limit is relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. The upper age limit is also relaxed for Defense Services Personnel. Nationality, Gender, Marital status: Applicant must have an Indian citizenship. Applicant must be Male or Female. Applicant should be married or Unmarried no issue. Physical Fitness: Male 165 Cm Pahari Male (General also) & ST (Not SC/OBC) - 160 Cm Female 150 Cm Pahari female (General also) & ST (Not SC/OBC) - 145 Cm Number of attempts: The number of attempts varies on the Reservation - General candidates: four attempts. - Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction. - Other Backward Classes: seven attempts. Indian Police Service Examination is conducted by UPSC or Union Public Service Commission. For IPS aspirants have to go through its competitive exam i.e. CSE (Civil Service Examination) held every. Eligibility IPS Entrance Examination (a) Must be a citizen of India. (b) A candidate must not have attained the age of 30 years for General Category, 36 years for Other Backward Classes category candidates and 37 years for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.
