Re: Different courses after MBBS

I am suggesting some courses in India for MBBS Students prepare for post graduation.


1. MD or MS
Duration – 3 years
Course
Most known postgraduate qualification of MBBS in India is MD or MS.MD stands for “Doctor of Medicine” and MS stands for “Master of Surgery”
Admission
For admissions to MD/MS courses a student has to appear and qualify in the Medical Entrance Examination conducted by institute authority once in a year.
2. DNB
Duration – 3 years (post MBBS), 5 years (for DNB Super specialist post MBBS) & 2 years (post PG Diploma)
Course
Diplomat of National Board is the most popular postgraduate course for medical Students these days. It is a 3 years postgraduate course equivalent to MD/MS in India.
Admission
National Board of Examination conducts Entrance examination for admission to DNB courses. There are some 5 yrs DNB courses like cardiology, urology etc.

3. Post Graduate Diploma (from University)
Duration – 2 years
Course – This course is widely available in various Medical Colleges and hospitals across India. Duration of these courses is 2 years.
Admission – Admission criteria is same as MD/MS courses.
Eligibility – It is also same as MD/MS courses.
Students after completion of their Diploma course from Government Medical Colleges are mandatory to work in Government Hospital.

4. CPS Courses
Duration – 3 years for FCPS & 2 years for CPS diplomas.
Course -
College of Physicians & Surgeons, Mumbai established in 1913 conducts Diploma & FCPS Courses post MBBS. Examinations of CPS & FCPS Courses are conducted by College of Physicians & Surgeons, Mumbai.
FCPS – (Fellowship of College of physicians & Surgeons)
It’s a 3 years course available in various Medical institutes in Maharashtra for:
• Medicine
• Surgery
• Midwifery & Gynecology
• Ophthalmology
• Child Health
• Dermatology
• Venereology
• Oto-Rhino-Laryngology
• Orthopaedics
• Anaesthesiology
• Pathology

CPS Diplomas
It is 2 years course in various medical institutes in Maharashtra for:
• Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery
• Gynaecology and Obstetrics Child Health
• Pathology and Bacteriology
• Dermatology and Venereology
• Anaesthesia
• Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (E.N.T.)
• Orthopaedics
• Psychological Medicine
• Medical Radiology & Electrology
• Tuberculosis Diseases
• Family Planning
• Public Health

Eligibility
MBBS student who has passed & completed 1 year compulsory Internship from medical college recognized by Medical Council of India.
