Before 1995, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeet was just called Kashi Vidhapith and it received its present name in honor of the father of the nation as Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. It was actually established in 1921 on the 10th of February by the Father of the Nation. It got recognition as Deemed University only in 1963 from the University Grants Commission.
