Both BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science) and NIT (National Institute of Technology) are among the top Institutes in India of all time.

Rankings for BITS Pilani
• A 2008 study by the Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) found that BITS Pilani, IISc and the top five IITs accounted for 70–75% of Indian semiconductor research.
• Annual rankings of engineering colleges in India have been published by India Today since 1997. BITS Pilani ranked in the top five from 1997 to 2004.
• The Government of India's National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rated BITS 5 star institution for the period ending 7 February 2007.
• BITS Pilani is accredited by the NAAC with a CGPA of 3.71 (out of 4.0) with an A grade for the period 1 April 2007 to 8 March 2009.

NIT
The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are a group of premier federally-funded public engineering institutes in India. They have been declared as Institutes of National Importance alongside the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) by an Act of Parliament of India.

These institutes of national importance receive special recognition and funding from the Government of India. All 31 NITs are funded by the Government of India. These institutes are among the top ranked engineering colleges in India.

They have one of the lowest acceptance rates for engineering institutes, of around 2% to 3%, second only to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India.
