AFMC Sword Of Honour

Sir I want to know that who is the first woman in the AFMC to get the Sword Of Honour so can you please tell me the same

Hi in the year 2011 a cadet of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) at Pune, got the Sword Of Honour as a first lady to get that

Here name was the Shikha Awasthi,

She had become the first woman to receive a Sword of Honour for overall excellence at the passing-out parade of the institute.

She also became the first graduate of AFMC to receive all three top honours, namely, the Sword of Honour,

The Presidents Gold Medal

The Kalinga Trophy.


The selection of a lady doctor to receive the Sword of Honour, in addition to other academic awards, marks the entry of women into a position that has been the exclusive domain of males.


Awasthi hails from Rae Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

She did her schooling from K-V Bolarum in Secunderabad before joining the AFMC in Pune in 2006.a doctor in charge of the health services of a civilian or military authority or other organization.

She was always a topper at school and was motivated to join the Armed Forces by her father who served here

She was also inspired by Col Madhuri Kanitkar,a former faculty member at AFMC.
