Requirements for Graduation in TN
The Tennessee State Board of Education in the fall of 1993 passed a comprehensive reform program for all secondary schools in the state. The Tennessee Department of Education offers opportunities to high schools in support of their Advanced Placement programs. The Tennessee Department of Education will implement the Tennessee Diploma Project (TDP), a broad overhaul of standards and program planned to challenge students and better prepare them for college and the workforce.
Tennessee Graduation Requirements:
To graduate high school, one requires twenty credits. These 20 total credits include specific path requirement units (technical or university), core curriculum units and electives.
Core Curriculum Units
English – 4 units
Math – 3 units
Science – 3 units
Social Studies – 3 units
Physical Fitness, Health and Wellness – 1 unit
Tennessee University Path Requirements

Foreign Language – 2 units
Fine Arts – 1 unit
