Re: Virtual Memory and Cache Memory

Ok, as you want to know the difference between the Virtual Memory and Cache Memory so here I am providing you.

Virtual memory

It is an abstraction of the main memory.

It extends the available memory of the computer by storing the inactive parts of the content RAM on a disk.

It fetches it back to the RAM when the content is required.

It extends the memory capacity of a computer beyond the one that is installed.

It operates in the millisecond range.

Managed by the operating system

It is a part of the hard drive (secondary storage).

Cache memory

It is used to store frequently accessed data in order to quickly access the data whenever it is required.

It reduces the amount of time needed to access the data.

It operates in the nanosecond range.

Managed automatically by the hardware

Located on the processor itself
