Re: Validity of exam of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. Validity of exam of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering The scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering are for a period of 3 years. The move has been implemented keeping in mind graduate engineers who want to gain more work experience after completing bachelor degree. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various Post-Graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Doctor of Philosophy) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance by MHRD and other government agencies. GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings or government-owned companies for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. The increase in validity of score opens up job opportunities for students for a longer period of time, and helps them gain a couple of years of extra work experience and help them pay off their education loans before commencement of the post graduate degrees. The PSUs recruitment for certain jobs open up only after prior work experience of about 2 years. Therefore, the increased validity period give students the opportunity to gain the right quality of work experience after giving the GATE exam. Since GATE focuses on the relative performance of a candidate, by testing their understanding of various undergraduate subjects, the added work experience give them an added frame in their resume.
