The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad (condensed as IIT (ISM)) is an open building and research establishment situated in Dhanbad, India. It was once in the past known as Indian School of Mines and was a Deemed University before it got changed over into an Institute of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.

IIT (ISM) is situated in the mineral-rich district of India, in the city of Dhanbad. It is the third most established organization (after IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU) Varanasi) which got changed over into an IIT.

Ranking

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad was positioned as the eighth best Engineering College of India in the Edu-Rand Rankings of 2015. The study was done mutually by Edu, an Indian organization and Rand Corporation, a non-benefit American think-tank.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has been positioned at 201-250 position among BRICS countries' and 51-100 among Mineral and Mining foundations by QS World University Rankings in 2016.
