I am taking admission in VIT Vellore this year. Provide me information about this institute.

VIT was established in 1984 and was formerly named as Vellore Engineering College is an Indian institute of higher education and a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. There are 19 UG and 34 PG, 4 Integrated and 4 Research programmes with students from 47 countries.

It was founded by Mr. G Vishwanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Government of Tamil Nadu. It has total 9 schools:

1. School of Advanced Sciences
2. School of Bio-sciences and technology
3. School of computing science and engineering
4. School of electrical engineering
5. School of electronics engineering
6. School of information technology and engineering
7. School of mechanical and building sciences
8. School of social science and languages
9. VIT Business School

VIT at present has 2 centres- Vellore and Chennai and its Bangalore campus will start from 2015.

Admission details:

1. Admission to B.Tech programs is through an entrance exam- VITEEE
2. Admission for BSc., B.A,BBA, B.Com will be on the basis of merit of percentage obtained in +2. There will be no entrance exam.
3. Admission to 5-year integrated programmes will be on the basis of merit of marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in +2. There will be no entrance exam.
4. Admission to PG science programmes will be on the basis of merit of marks obtained in undergraduate degree till their 4th semester/2nd year. There will be no entrance exam.
5. Admission for MBA will be done on the basis of performance in CAT/XAT.
6. Admission for M.Tech/MCA will be on the basis of entrance exam VITMEE.
