Well the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a public research university located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Center for Robotics at IIT Kanpur was established in 1989

It was done through a grant of Rupees 5 million by the Ministry of Human Resource Development,

It was happened dues to the efforts of Prof. Amitabha Ghosh.

The Robotics Centre has initiated a number of activities in the frontier area of Mechatronics, and has become truly interdisciplinary.

In view of this, the name of the Center has been changed to 'Center for Mechatronics'

The Center was renamed 'Center for Mechatronics' in 1994, during the Headship of Prof.Himanshu Hatwal.

It moved to its current premises at Room NL 312 at the Northern Lab Building in 1990.
