Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Indian Forest Service Exam (IFS) every year.

Exam pattern:

IFS Exam consists of two stages:
I. Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
II. Indian Forest Service Main Examination (Written and Interview).




Indian Forest Service Exam consists of following papers:
Paper Ist: General English
Paper 2nd: General Knowledge

Paper IIIrd, IVth, Vth, and VIth:

Candidates need to select any two subjects from this list:
Agriculture
Agricultural Engineering
Animal Husbandry
Botany
Chemistry
Chemical Engineering
Forestry
Geology
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Physics
Statistics
Zoology

IFS Syllabus

General Knowledge

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nuture which the candidate should be able to answer without special study.

General English

General English Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precis.

Eligibility:

i) NATIONALITY :
A candidate must be either :-
(a) A citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. Or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma,
Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
