The Pre-Sea Training for General Purpose Ratings course offered by Commander Ali's Academy of Merchant Navy is approved by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.

Basic Outline:
The training program is of Six months Pre-Sea Training. The training comprises of theoretical and Practical study of General Ship Knowledge and Marine Engineering Knowledge which gives the successful trainees an opportunity to join the merchant shipping in the Deck or Engineering Department as a Trainee GP Rating.

The course is conducted twice a year with batches commencing January and July each year. The approved course capacity is 40 trainees per batch.


Minimum Entry Requirement:
Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Class from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematics as subjects and with at least 40% marks in English language.

Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course from Govt. Approved Institute with at least 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or Diploma Exam.

[The admission will be only through Common Entrance Test]

Age Limit
17½ - 25 Years

The student aspiring to join the course should be within the above age limit on the date of course commencement.

Medical and Eye Sight Requirements
Medical and Eye Sight requirements will be as per the existing standards of DG Shipping.
6/6 Vision with no colour blindness
No speech impairment (disorder).

Candidate need to undergo and produce a Medical Fitness certificate issued by DG Shipping approved Doctor.

Admission Procedure
All admissions for GP Rating course are done by the Academy.
All aspiring students meeting the above mentioned admission criteria can contact the Academy along with their educational qualification documents and register for the course.
Candidates need to visit the Academy in person to register for the course.

Duties of a General Purpose Rating on a Ship
GP Rating is trained in both, Deck and Engine Room duties.
One can be employed in either Deck or Engine department according to the needs of the company.
Ratings work on the ship inculdes seamanship activities, cargo handling, maintenance work, operation and maintenance of machinery.

Course Fee
The Fee of six months Pre-Sea Training is Rs.190,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Ninety Thousand Only).
The fee paid once is not refundable under any circumstances.
