The Biomedical Informatics Centre (BIC) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,Chandigarh was established in November, 2006.

This is the one of the centers created by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Govt. of India.

Objectives of the centre:

To promote modern biology research in host institute and regional medical colleges.

To increase awareness of recent developments in the in modern biology through workshops and training programs.

To develop and support databases of specific clinical findings.

To develop new methodologies and solutions for prevention and amelioration of diseases of national importance.

List of projects carried out by BIC PGIMER:
1. Procarb: A Database of Known and Modelled Carbohydrate-Binding Protein Structures with Sequence-Based Prediction Tools
2. ContPro: A web tool for calculating amino acid contact distances in protein from 3D -structures at different distance threshold
3. CDKD: A clinical database of kidney diseases
4. NucleoProtDb: A database of known Adenine & Guanine phosphates binding protein structures with tools
5. Computational analysis of glycogenes from mouse RNA-seq data
6. Database of nsSNPs for hub glycogenes identified from mouse RNA-seq data
7. Computational analysis of transcriptome of malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum
8. Computational insights for discovery of potential inhibitors against pneumonia causing bacteria
