II. Subject matter and methodology of Symbolic Interactionism. III. G.H. Mead’s contribution to Symbolic Interactionism. IV. Development of Symbolic Interactionism and contribution of James, Cooley, W.I. Thomas, Herbert Blumer, Kuhn and Goffman to Symbolic Interactionism, Limitations of Symbolic Interactionism. B) Exchange Theory I. Introduction Origin of the Sociological use of the term ‘Exchange’ II. Principles of Sociological Exchange theory: ‘Unit of analysis, motive in exchange theory, profit, voluntarism, Social approval’. III.
