Indian Institute of Technology Madras
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is an engineering and technology school in Chennai (once Madras) in southern India. Accepted as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India, it is deemed as one of the finest engineering institutions in India. Established in 1959 with technical and financial aid from the Government of the erstwhile West Germany, IIT Madras is third amongst presently fifteen Indian Institutes of Technology (admitting 6 new IITs began in 2008 and 2 more in 2009) founded by the Government of India by an Act of Parliament, to furnish education and research facilities in engineering and technology.
