Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik offers The Certificate Programme in Human Rights of six-month duration.

The medium of instruction of this programme is English.

This programme would be completed in 14 counselling sessions.

The number of the participants in one batch should not exceed 30.

Course Objectives

This course is designed to offer an in-depth grasp of the nature and operation of human rights and the significance of a rights-based approach to national development.

The core concepts of equality and non-discrimination.

The basic concepts of rights, their inherent, indivisible and universal nature, how duties correspond to rights, how and when rights can be limited.

The historical development of international human rights standards, guarantees and systems, and how these create obligations for India.

• The significance of a rights-based approach to human development.

• The way in which universally valid rights are given expression and protection at national level in India through national laws and protective mechanisms.

• Contemporary debates in human rights internationally and in India
