Utkal University is a teaching-cum-affiliating university. There are at present 27 masters departments at the university campus for studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business administration, Social science, Law, and Commerce.

The vision of Utkal University is to be a centre of excellence in higher education with focus on innovative teaching, learning, research, and consultancy and extension activities in building a creative, enlightened and productive civil society.
