Re: William Carey University Tradition Campus Nursing

The mission of the School of Nursing of Health Sciences of William Carey University is to prepare professional nurses for entry-level education positions in either academic or healthcare institutional settings.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program degree is offered on both the Hattiesburg and Tradition Campuses.

Students are accepted for admission in the Fall and Spring terms.

Hattiesburg classes are held in the Fail-Asbury Building on the Hattiesburg campus.

Tradition classes are held at the Tradition campus located on Highway 67 in Harrison County.

The MSN program offered at William Carey University fits the lifestyle of busy nurses. It can be done on either a full-time or part-time basis.

A schedule is tailored to meet both the curriculum and the student’s needs. The minimum course load for full-time status as a graduate student is six semester hours during a trimester.

A student needs to complete all required work within a period of six years after enrolling in the graduate program.

The Joseph and Nancy Fail School of Nursing also offer 5 post-master’s specialty areas.
Each specialty is offered based on student demand.

Specialty Areas include:

• Case Management – it prepares to function in the stretched role of a case manager and utilize expertise in the concepts of cost containment and resource allocation.

• Clinical Nursing Education – it is designed for nurse educators with an interest in providing clinical instruction in a variety of healthcare settings. One choose a population focus based on individual clinical expertise. Principles and processes of low, medium, and high fidelity simulation design and implementation is explored.

• Gerontology – It is designed to meet the growing needs of an aging population, students are eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult-Gerontology certification exam up completion of coursework.

• Nursing Administration – It prepares the nurse to serve in a variety of leadership and management roles within healthcare. It requires the nursing student to complete courses focusing on nursing administration competencies that are essential for practice in the role of a nurse administrator.

• Nursing Education – It is developed for the MSN-prepared nurse who wishes to pursue further education in the role of the nurse in an academic setting
