Hey buddy a mentor is a person or friend who guides a less experienced person by building trust and modeling positive behaviors. An effective mentor understands that his or her role is to be dependable, engaged, authentic, and tuned into the needs of the mentee. Best qualities of a Mentor Provides guidance and constructive feedback. Respected by colleagues and employees in all levels of the organization. Values the opinions and initiatives of others. Motivates others by setting a good example. Demonstrates a positive attitude and acts as a positive role model. Willingness to share skills, knowledge, and expertise. Takes a personal interest in the mentoring relationship. Exhibits enthusiasm in the field. Values ongoing learning and growth in the field. Profile of a Mentor Accompanying: Sowing: Sowing is necessary when you know that what you say may not be understood or even acceptable to learners at first but will make sense and have value to the mentee when the situation requires it. Catalyzing: the mentor chooses to plunge the learner right into change, provoking a different way of thinking, a change in identity or a re-ordering of values. Showing: You show what you are talking about, you show by your own behavior. Harvesting: The key questions here are: "What have you learned?", "How useful is it?". |
