Re: What is Epigallocatechin Gallate EGCG

The Epigallocatechin Gallate EGCG is the also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate, is the ester of epigallocatechin and gallic acid, and is a type of catechin.

It is basically found in the green tea.

The structure of EGCG can be similar to the image given below:

The ECGC is used in medical applications, some of them I have given below:

Therapeutic use
1.1 HIV
1.2 Cancer
1.3 Chronic fatigue syndrome
1.4 Sjögren's syndrome
1.5 Endometriosis
1.6 Spinal muscular atrophy
1.7 Neurodegeneration
1.8 Cannabinoid 1 receptor, CB1 receptor Activity
1.9 Periapical lesions

Re: What is Epigallocatechin Gallate EGCG

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate and it is the ester of epigallocatechin and gallic acid, and is a type of catechin.

EGCG is the most abundant catechin in tea and it is a polyphenol under basic research for its potential to affect human health and disease.

It is found mainly in white tea, green tea and, in smaller quantities, black tea; during black tea production, the catechins are mostly converted to theaflavins and thearubigins.

Pharmacology:
EGCG is an inhibitor of the enzymes followings:
• Histone acetyltransferase
• DNA methyltransferas
• Fatty acid synthase
• Glutamate dehydrogenase
• Topoisomerase I and II
• Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase
• 11β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase

Names:
IUPAC name:
[(2R,3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-2-(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenyl)chroman-3-yl] 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate

Preferred IUPAC name:
(2R,3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-2-(3,4,5-trihydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-3-yl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate

Properties:
Molecular formula: C22H18O11
Molar mass: 458.37 g•mol−1

Appearance:
Solubility in water: soluble (33.3-100 g/L)[vague]
Solubility: soluble in ethanol, DMSO, dimethyl formamide at about 20 g/l

EGCG provides anti-disease effects or overall health benefits in following diseases:
HIV
Cancer
Chronic fatigue syndrome
Sjögren's syndrome
Endometriosis
Spinal muscular atrophy
Neurodegeneration
CB1 receptor activity
Periapical lesion
Cerebrovascular insult
