Joint Liability Group (JLG):
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched a Joint Liability Group (JLG) scheme to provide access to institutional credit to small, marginal, tenant farmers, oral lessees and share croppers.

JLG is an informal group comprising 4 to 10 individuals coming together for the purpose of availing bank loan on individual basis through group mechanism against mutual guarantee.

In order to develop sustainable agricultural practice among the tribal farmers, we created 56 the Joint Liability Groups in Jawadhu Hills.

Vellore Institute of Technology's Joint Liability Group (JLG) comprising of 7-10 individuals from same locality joined in the group and opened a bank account in Indian Bank, Jamunamarathur, Jawadhu Hills.

Generally, all the members of a JLG engaged in Agriculture and Allied Activities. They organize meetings once in a month and discuss the issues related to farm practices and accordingly invite resource persons from Agricultural, Horticultural, Sericulture and Organic farming etc. for the training programme.

• Membership Fee - Rs. 200 per head
• Monthly Saving - Rs 100 per head
• Subscription - Rs. 3 per head monthly

• Forest Produces Trading – Amala, Kadukai, Tamarind etc.
• Food Processing.
• Bee Keeping.

Bank Support
They facilitate JLG with Indian Bank, Jamunamarathur for Credit Linkage both Direct Loan and Subsidy Loan.
So far facilitated 56 JLGs with the Bank
As if now thay have Credit Linked amount of Rs. 26,50,000 for the JLGs and they have paid back the amount.
They are distributed to get Subsidy Loan for Sheep rearing for Rs. 1,26,00,000.

Farmers Club:
For transmitting the latest agriculture techniques to the Farmers’ field, orienting them to establish better relationship with banks, adoption of latest post-harvest handling technology, value addition, etc. and enjoy the benefits of collective bargaining power both for procuring inputs and select their produce the Farmers’ Club Programme is an appropriate and most suitable strategy initiated by NABARD. So far the Village Resource Centre formed 12 farmers club and linked with Indian Bank, Jamunamarathur for the tribal farmers.
