Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a private deemed university institute founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College. VIT was ranked 801-1000 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018 and 251-300 in Asia. The QS World University Rankings ranked it 271-280 in Asia in 2018.

It offers academic programs in Engineering, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It offers 20 undergraduate programs, 34 postgraduate, 4 integrated MS courses, and 4 doctoral programs. It consolidated its disciplines into 10 Schools of Study with the addition of the VIT Law School at its Chennai campus.

ASC (Academic Staff College)

VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology) established an Academic Staff College (ASC) on its own exclusively meant for its human resources. The Vellore Institute of Technology College was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College.

The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001.

The Vellore Institute of Technology is a private deemed university institute located in the outskirts of Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.
