As on 4th July 2016 Prof. Nageshwar Rao is the Vice Chancellor of the Uttarakhand Open University.

Before joining the Uttarakhand Open University as Vice-Chancellor on third May, 2016, Prof Nageshwar Rao was Vice Chancellor I/c, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi amid 28th November 2014 to 28th April 2016. In the wake of finishing his term as Vice-Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad between August 2008 to August 2011 he served as Pro Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University New Delhi amid December 2013 to November 2014. Amid August 2011 and December 2013, he was Professor in Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Business Management (Pt. JNIBM) Vikram University, Ujjain where he has likewise served as the Director of the organization for over 13 years.
