Can you tell me about the eligibility requirement needed for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Utkal University?

Utkal University invites application from eligible candidates for admission to Doctor of Philosophy ( PhD ) programs.

Eligibility Criteria

Master degree holders having secured minimum 55% marks in the above discipline of Utkal University or any other university recognized as equivalent are eligible for Ph.D registration

One has to qualify through an entrance test followed by interview

Subject in which marks are not awarded equivalent grade point is taken as the qualifying grade/mark

However, candiates belonging to SC/ST category and college teacher having 15 years of teaching experience is given relaxation of 5% marks at Master's Degree level


Exemption from Entrance Test

One qualifying UGC-CSIR / NET/GATE/SLET/DBT/ICMR /ICAR /ICHR/ ICSSR/INSPIRE Fellowship of DST/Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship / Dept. of Culture, Govt, of India and other National Bodies and awardees of Teacher Fellowship and such other fellowship as approved by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time are also exempted from entrance test and interview

M.Phil Degree holders are also exempted from entrance test and interview provided admitted to M.Phil programme through a written entrance test

Teachers of colleges /University /institutions of Higher Education and professionals with 7 years teaching /professional experience are exempted from appearing the entrance test and interview

The numbers of seats available in each faculty for PhD Registration are:
i) Culture Studies - 15 (Seats)
ii) Language and Literature - 10 (Seats)
iii) Visual Art - 10 (Seats)
iv) Performing Art - 15 (Seats)

The number of seats specified above against each subject does not include the exempted category of candidates

Conduct of Entrance Test

Applications for Entrance Test dully filled in along with the requisite fees through Bank Draft is sent to the Controller of Examinations either by post or in person
Incomplete applications in any respect and applications received beyond the stipulated date shall be summarily rejected and no communication shall be made with the candidates in this regard

The candidates who are eligible to be exempted from Entrance Test and Interview also apply in the Entrance Test application form for issue of necessary exemption certificate

They need not pay the fee application for entrance test
