Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts its UPSC Prelims and Mains examination for recruitment to IAS, IPS, IFS Group 'A' and some Group 'B' services.

Notification Dates for IAS Preliminary Exam
Starting Date of Registration: 31st May 2014
Last Date for Receipt of Applications: 30th June 2014, till 11.59 p.m.
Date of Examination: 24th August 2014

Eligibility
-You should be a citizen of India.
-You must be atleast 21 years of age and less than 31 years of age
-The upper age limit is relaxed upto a maximum of :

SC / ST 5
OBC 3
Defense Services personnel 3
Domiciled in J&K during the period 01/01/1980 - 31/12/1989 5
- You must be a graduate from a recognized university or a deemed university.

IAS Preliminary Examination Syllabus

Paper I : General Studies (GS) - 200 marks - 2 hours
Subject Area
Current events of national & international importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Phsical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Right Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
General issues on Environmentel Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation
General Science

Paper II : Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) - 200 marks - 2 hours
Subject Area
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability
Decision-making & Problem-solving
General Mental Ability
Basic Numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (CLass X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. - Class X Level)
English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level)

Here I am giving you details about UPSC – IAS Exam including Dates and eligibility criteria and Syllabus?


IAS Exam Eligibility:

1. Educational Qualifications:

Candidate should be at least a Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university.

2. Nationality:
For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India
For other services, a candidate must be either:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. These candidates will not be eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service.

3. Age Limits:
Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August of the year in which examination is being held.


IAS Exam Syllabus:

Paper 1:

(200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs.
• Current events of national and international importance
• History of India and Indian national movement
• Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
• Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
• Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
• General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization
• General science.

Paper 2:
(200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs.
• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability
• Decision making and problem solving
• General mental ability
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
• English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

IAS Exam Date:
IAS exam is normally held in the month of August.
