Re: University Of Montana Police
The University of Montana Police Department (UMPD) serves and protects the students, staff, faculty, and all people and property within the University of Montana campus and properties. The mission of UM Police Department is to work in partnership with the campus community to provide the most professional, effective public safety services possible. UM Police Officers have the exclusive responsibility to act upon law-enforcement matters and perform police functions for the UM Main Campus and the Missoula College. UM Police Officers investigate all crimes and enforce federal, state, and local laws as well as University of Montana policies. All sworn UMPD officers have successfully completed training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) or equivalent training recognized by the Montana Peace Officer Standards and Training council. The officers have the same authority and powers of arrest as any officer in the state. In addition to the MLEA training, UMPD officers receive additional training throughout the year. Dispatch Center The University of Montana has a full dispatch center. Dispatchers are fully certified and trained by the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. All staff working in the front office is certified dispatchers They are the people that are next to the phone in case there is an emergency. They are making sure campus is running smoothly. Not only do they work with the police officers but they also monitor building security and make the necessary calls when things go wrong. Whether it is a broken pipe that is causing flooding above office or a burglary alarm, UM Dispatchers watch over the university 24/7 Both Police Dispatchers and Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
