The University of Madras is an open state college in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Built up in 1857, it is one of the most seasoned and head colleges in India. The college was consolidated by a demonstration of the Legislative Council of India.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has presented 'five star' accreditation to the college and it has been given the status of 'College with Potential for Excellence' by the University Grants Commission

Grounds

The college is spread more than six grounds, viz., Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Taramani, Chetput and Maduravoyal. The Chepauk grounds of the college houses the VC's secretariat, focal library, centennial assembly hall and the notable Senate House. The oriental and Indian dialects divisions are situated in the Marina Campus. The Guindy grounds fuses the regular sciences offices while the grounds at Taramani houses the school of fundamental medicinal sciences. The games union and the herbal greenhouse are situated in Chetpet and Maduravoyal grounds individually.
