University of Maryland UMD School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation was established in 1964.

The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation is one of thirteen schools at the University of Maryland, College Park.

PhD in Urban and Regional Planning and Design

The applicant should have completed a Master's degree in a related field including but not exclusively urban planning, architecture, historic preservation or landscape architecture.


New students are admitted for the Fall term only.

December 15 for Part I (initial online application) and Part II (ASF) for all applicants
January 1 for transcripts and recommendations
