UCSB Police Officers have state-wide authority; as well as are duly sworn under the California Penal Code, and are also trained under state guidelines and mandates. The UCSB Police Department is a full service police department that is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The UCSB University Police Department has the following divisions:

Patrol Division
Problem-Solving Unit
Live Scan & Rolling Stock Safety Class
Community Service Organization (CSO)
Isla Vista Foot Patrol
Records Unit
Property Unit
Communications Unit

CSO (Community Service Organization) was shaped as an organization of students to act as a liaison between UCSB students and the Police Department.

CSO Officer Objectives
These are a few objectives that CSOs uphold during their specific shifts.
• To give a safe learning and living environment for UCSB.
• To support safety consciousness within the campus community.
• To offer a positive link between the students and UCPD.
• To set up an open line of communication on a peer group level.
• To persuade bicycle safety and awareness.
