Tax accountants understand tax reporting requirements and prepare tax returns for both individuals and businesses, but this alone doesn't reveal the wide range of services they provide.

The specialty area of tax accounting encompasses services that range from the simple preparation of individual returns to highly complex tax planning services for multinational corporations.

Basic Function:
The tax accountant position is accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local levels in a timely manner, and advising management on the tax impact of various corporate strategies.

Principal Accountabilities:
-Devise tax strategies to defer or eliminate tax payments

-Create tax data collection systems

-Complete required tax reporting in a timely manner

-Prepare and update tax provision schedules

-Update the company sales tax database as tax rates change

-Coordinate audits by various taxation authorities

-Research and correct process errors that caused incorrect tax filings

-Negotiate with tax authorities over tax payment issues

-Research the basis for tax positions to be taken

-Advise management regarding the tax impact of corporate strategies

-Advise management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities

-Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work

-Identify tax savings in prospective acquisition scenarios

Position Requirements:


-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or two to four years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Experience working for a Big 4 public accounting firm is strongly preferred. Combination of public accounting and industry experience is preferable.
-CPA required.
-Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
-Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
-Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
-Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and Explorer Internet software; FastTrack or similar tax software.
