The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is a public state university established in 1997 under The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University Act, 1996, which also brought all law colleges in Tamil Nadu under the control of the university. LL.M. Degree Courses: The School of Excellence in Law offers Post-Graduate Courses (Regular Programmes) leading to two year LL.M. Degrees, under CBCS pattern, in the following Nine Branches: Department of Business Law Branch I: Business Law Department of Constitutional Law and Human Rights Branch II: Constitutional Law & Human Rights Department of Intellectual Property Law Branch III: Intellectual Property Law Department of International Law and Organization Branch IV: International Law and Organization Department of Environmental Law Branch V: Environmental Law and Legal Order Department of Criminal Law Branch VI: Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration Department of Human Rights and Duties Education/Centre for Human Rights [Funded by UGC] Branch VII: Human Rights and Duties Education Department of Labour Law & Administrative Law Branch VIII: Labour Law & Administrative Law Department of Taxation In Law Branch IX: Taxation In Law Intake and Reservation: The number of students to be admitted in each branch of the LL.M. Degree Course is limited to 20. For each of the branches, the reservation will be based on the State Reservation Policy. Eligibility: The general eligibility condition for admission to Master Programme is through formal education as per the UGC Regulations 2001. One who has successfully completed 3 year / 5 year under-graduate degree course in Law conducted by the University or equivalent thereto is eligible for admission One should have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks under New Regulations [40% under Old Regulations]. One who is awaiting results may also apply Course Structure & Duration: LL.M. Degree Course is offered at the University under CBCS pattern and is of two years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters (odd semester from July to November and even semester from December to April). Each semester consists of 90 working days. A semester normally extends over a period of 15 weeks; each week has 30 hours of instruction spread over a 5 day week. The semester pattern is designed with continuous assessment system.
