Re: Storage Area Networking

I would like to tell you about the storage area network (SAN) as well as its images as you want.

A storage area network (SAN) is a network that provides access to consolidated, block level data storage.

A storage area network (SAN) is a secure high-speed data transfer network that provides access to consolidated block-level storage.

A storage area network (SAN) typically has its own network of storage devices that are generally not accessible through the local area network (LAN) by other devices.

A storage area network (SAN) does not provide file abstraction, only block-level operations.

Network types
ATA over Ethernet (AoE), mapping of ATA over Ethernet

Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP), the most prominent one, is a mapping of SCSI over Fibre Channel

iSCSI, mapping of SCSI over TCP/IP

iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER), mapping of iSCSI over InfiniBand

Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

ESCON over Fibre Channel (FICON), used by mainframe computers

HyperSCSI, mapping of SCSI over Ethernet

iFCP[4] or SANoIP[5] mapping of FCP over IP
