Can you tell me about the eligibility requirement for admission in Bachelor of Technology programme through Lateral Entry in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) of SMU?

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) of SMU was established in 1997. It is part of Manipal Group. It has approval by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commission (UGC). It is also accredited by NBA.

The eligibility requirements for admission in Bachelor of Technology programme through Lateral Entry in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) are as follows:

Eligibility

One can apply for the direct entry to second year of Bachelor of Technology programme after fulfilling the following criteria:

(i) Three years diploma in appropriate branch of engineering with minimum 60% (55% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) marks in aggregate.

Preference is given to one with the diploma in the same branch of engineering.

(ii) Three years' B Sc degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects, with minimum 60% (55% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) marks in aggregate.


Admission Procedure:
20% of seats (out of approved strength) are earmarked in each engineering department for lateral entry scheme.

Eligible candidates have to appear in the screening tests conducted at SMIT by the concerned department.

While preparing the merit, 50% weightage is given to aggregate marks obtained in Diploma or B. Sc (PCM) and 50% weightage for marks obtained in the screening test.

One needs to send entrance exam fee along with duly filled application form.

One who is seeking admission under lateral entry need to contact the Admission Office during the last week of June.
