Hello sir I am Neelam, I am completing my degree through distance education of Sikkim Manipal University and after completing the degree I want to apply for UPSC Exam so will you please tell me am I eligible for applying??

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is a co-educational public-private funded university located in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. It was established in 1995 and is the first government-private initiative in the region.

This University is affiliated to AIU, DEC, All India Council for Technical Education AICTE hence you are eligible for applying for UPSC Exam

As the general eligibility criteria for UPSC Exam are:

Nationality:- The candidate must be the citizen of India to apply for the Indian Administrative Service & Indian Police Service.

Age Limit: - The candidate should be minimum 21 years of age for applying and the maximum age limit to apply for the UPSC Exams is 29 years.

Educational Qualification: - The candidate should have a degree completed from any of the institutes established by an Act of Parliament or any University deemed by the University Grant Commission under section 3, Act, 1956. The candidates with a degree from any of the recognized universities can apply for the UPSC Exams.

There is no matter that your graduation is from the distance programme.


Number of attempts: - Every eligible candidate is allowed to attempt the Civil Services Examination four times.

4. Engineering Services Examination (In June)
5. Geologist Examination (in December)

7. National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (In April & September)
8. Combined Defence Services Examination (In February & August)
9. Combined Medical Services Examination (In January)
10. Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination (In November)
11. Section Officers/Stenographers (Grade-B/Grade-I) Limited Departmental Competetive Examination (In December)
12. Central Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination (In October)
