The short term course at IIT Madras strives to inform adequate background on automation as well as to provide hands-on training to truly appreciate the various automation and Mechatronics related concepts.

The course is intended for early stage researchers and teachers, including those pursuing their PhD degrees.

Course Contents:

Manufacturing excellence through relevant automation
Sensors and actuators in automation and selection criteria
Industrial control systems,PLC programming, use of Function Blocks, Multi-tasking, Human-Machine-Interface design, SCADA
Introduction to Robotics – Robot classifications, work cell, applications, robots for Indian Industry
Mechatronics system design
The course includes visit to few laboratories and hands-on experiments.


The course is an interdisciplinary program intended for various fields of engineering and research, such as electrical, electronics, mechanical, and instrumentation engineering.
