Re: Seattle Pacific University Ivy Cutting
Seattle Pacific University celebrates Commencement with two separate ceremonies: a graduate ceremony (for masters and doctoral degrees) and an undergraduate ceremony (for bachelor's degrees). Below youll find the complete schedule. Ivy Cutting Ivy Cutting has been a part of spring graduation rites since 1922, when the first Ivy Planting ceremony was introduced. Now, more than 90 years later, graduates participate in an Ivy Cutting ceremony where each senior receives a cutting from a long, connected ring of ivy. The ceremony symbolizes the seniors tie to the University and its many alumni, and a newfound independence that comes with becoming a graduate. Graduating undergraduate students and SPU faculty members don their academic garb and assemble in Tiffany Loop beneath towering elm trees, continuing this tradition. The ceremony represents both the students tie to Seattle Pacific and the independence that comes with graduation. Tickets are not required, but graduates should wear caps and gowns. After a brief ceremony, each graduate receives a sprig of ivy, signifying both the students tie to SPU and the independence that comes with graduation. Light refreshments follow for graduates, parents, and faculty in Tiffany Loop.
