The School of Environmental Studies, a Centre for higher learning dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development conceptualized in 1980 was established in 1983.

List of research areas:

Assessment of environmental resources of Kerala using Geo-informatics data base

Formulation of appropriate environmental policy decision in the context of rapidly changing climatic pattern induced by Global warming

Disaster zonation to develop management plans and to impart education and training to the implementers

Development of technologies for reduction in green house gas emission & Green house gases trapping technology.

Zero effluent discharge technology

Conservation of wetland and riverine ecosystems of Kerala inclusive of mangrove ecosystem

Bio-fuels.

Water technology mission including GIS based digital water quality index database of coastal Kerala.
