Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. Agriculture continues to occupy a place of pride in Indian economy. It plays important Role in Economic Development In India.

The importance of agriculture in following facts:

Share in national income
Source of employment
Provision of food grains
Supply of raw materials to industrial sector
Market for industrial product
Earner of foreign exchange
Significance for trade and transport
Source of revenue for the government

Agriculture contributes about sixteen percent (16%) of total GDP and ten percent (10%) of total exports.

Agricultural products of significant economic value include rice, wheat, potato, tomato, onion, mangoes, sugar-cane, beans, cotton, etc.
