MODULE-I WORKING CAPITAL DECISIONS (14 Hours)

Working capital-meaning, Concepts, components and classification. Importance of working capital. Working capital management-meaning, Objectives, Principles. Adequacy and inadequacy of working capital. Operating cycle. Working capital financing policy. Trade-off between profitability and risk. Estimation of working capital requirement-components approach and operating cycle approach.

MODULE-II LIQUIDITY MANAGEMENT (10 Hours)

Cash-meaning, Nature and motives for holding cash. Factors determining cash needs. Cash management-Meaning, Objectives and functions. Optimum level of cash balance-Baumol model and Miller-Orr model. Management of cash inflows and outflows. Management of marketable securities. Cash budget.

MODULE-III RECEIVABLES MANAGEMENT (10 Hours)

Receivables-meaning and objectives. Cost and benefits of receivables. Credit policy and
its variables. Factors determining the size of investment in receivables. Control of receivables- methods. Framing Optimum credit policy-problems.

MODULE-IV INVENTORY MANAGEMENT (10 Hours)

Inventory-Meaning, Components and motives for holding inventory. Inventory management-meaning and objectives. Cost and benefits of holding inventory. Tools and techniques of inventory management-stock levels, EOQ, Perpetual inventory system, ABC analysis and others.

MODULE-V SOURCES OF WORKING CAPITAL FINANCE (6hours) Short

term sources-trade credit, Bank finance, Commercial papers, etc. Long term sources-equity shares, Preference shares, Debentures, Ploughing back of profits, Public deposits, etc. Factoring-Meaning, Mechanism, Functions, Types, Merits and demerits
